    Vange Force Ten tent

You can have mine for nothing if you want to collect it from Cambs or sort out a courier! It's 25+ years old and the classic orange ridge tent, bit faded and a few repairs as you'd expect, but still perfectly useable. I last used this August, but have since been gifted a more modern, but less...

    Fjallraven trouser sizing??

Hi all, seeking your wisdom here. I thinking of investing in a pair of Fjallraven Barents Pro trousers and wonder what the sizing is like. I think of myself as a 32" waist but the Kiwi's I have in that size are baggy on me; other makes are tighter. Any advice, please, from any users? Cheers, TedW

Anybody used the DD Hammocks tarp sleeve?

Thanks chaps. Like the idea of the bishop bag, might try adapting one of my existing waterproof roll-ups.

Anybody used the DD Hammocks tarp sleeve?

Hi all, One for the tree-dwellers. I use a snakeskin for the hammock itself and like the idea of the tarp sleeve instead of the stuff sack I presently use: http://www.ddhammocks.com/product/dd_xl_sleeve But, what do any actual users think of them? Do you just end up with a big (wet?) bundle...

    First aid kit

Further question on the Friar's Balsam, pls. I tried carrying some for the reasons you state, but the plastic eye-dropper bottle I had was carp and split, leaking the stuff all over, plus the stickiness of the FB seemed to goo up the dropper. How have you got round that?

    Belt Kit And Yokes

I find a belt kit interferes with the comfortable carrying of a modern rucksack with a hip belt and that's always my priority before the unlikely possibility of getting separated from the ruck. A yoke would be even worse. I do always have a SAK, firesteel, whistle and minitorch in my pockets and...

Knife maker info - "Walker, England"

Hi all, some info please if anyone can help. My main bushcrafting knife is one I got off e-bay about 8 years ago, I really like it, it takes a good edge (once Ben Orford re-ground it for me to get rid of the secondary bevel someone had ruined it with!) and fits my hand well. I've been asked...

    ranger or surgeon

I agree with Paul_B regarding the ranger role; expect to do a couple of years unpaid volunteering before you've a chance at a job with any of the big land-managing organisations, especially if you want to do practical habitat management work instead of education/engagement with the public. Have...

    Blacks `Good Companion` tent

Good to see an oldie but goodie getting some use. My Vango Force 10 (only about 35 years old) used to be that shade of bright orange!

    Walking Poles

I started with a Brasher pole and bent it. Upgraded to a pair of Leki poles 15 or so years ago and they have never let me down. Spare are easy to come by, even tho' the poles are well outdated now. Mine also have a smooth wooden knob top, covering the screw for a camera, so don't stress my tarp...

    Wrapping up in a tarp?

I've used a bivvy-style set-up with the issue poncho in a previous life. Use the press studs to shut one end (IIRC there are some internal studs designed to clip to the '58 pattern green slug for just this purpose) and the long side; tie the 4 corners to suitable trees etc. to keep them just off...

Choice of uk legal pocket knife

Another vote for the classic Army jack-knife - robust and nothing to go wrong, plus the sheepsfoot blade is entirely non-threatening! Mine's as old as I am but in better nick and has been with me on many adventures. I often carry a Leatherman (Wave or Original) when I'm out working but always...
