    Knives on airplanes

Yosemite is definitely on my list for the future. For this trip, somewhere closer to the coast. The weather is always lovely in January as long as I don't get to high up. I visit NAMM in Anaheim every year. Thank you Chris. You too. I am looking forward to it. Thanks very much for the...

    Knives on airplanes

For some reason I am not yet permitted to post attachments. I can post photos if they appear somewhere else, like on FaceBook, but not upload them to this forum. I don't exactly know why. I am going to California to attend NAMM, a huge music trade show. Last year I went up the coast and...

    Knives on airplanes

Thank you so much Woodsorrel and Santaman2000. You have both given me some excellent and very thorough advice. Many thanks.

    Knives on airplanes

Thanks Alan. My alternative to a fixed blade would be my Victorinox Trailmaster, with its large locking blade and saw. That might be my best option anyway.

    Knives on airplanes

Thanks for the advice. I will certainly wrap it in cardboard even though I am taking the sheath. Thanks. Good idea, though I don't want to be buying any more knives, even if they are a bit cheaper in the US. I won't have time anyway. And unfortunately, if I were to post a knife back to myself...

    Knives on airplanes

I am going to be travelling to California on business for a couple of weeks in January. I will be flying BA from Manchester to LA. I will have a few days leisure time and plan to visit some of the wilder places, away from the cities. I would like to take a fixed-blade bushcraft knife with...

    Amazon 1p Bushcrafty books

I think this is more of a sales ploy. The seller gets their books for free and can usually ship them for far less than the £2.80 that is charged. A price of 1p makes it seem very cheap and tempts people to buy.

    Amazon 1p Bushcrafty books

Just sent for a copy of Richard Mabey's "Food For Free" for £0.01. An excellent book. I bought the book 40 years ago, when no-one was eating dandelion leaves (with good reason). Lost my original copy years ago. Looking forward to it arriving. It is worth noting that the postage on these used...

    a disaster has struck!!!

There are obviously advantages with both. Mine has a 2/3 internal tang. Sure, a full tang gives you a very strong knife and often looks great. However, the advantages of an internal tang on a forged knife are often overlooked. 1. The forged tang is hammered and compressed and so is...

I think I have posted this photo before, but here it is. Brazilian rosewood handel, convex grind, distal taper.

    a disaster has struck!!!

My first thought was to take my recently acquired Gransfors Bruk Small Hatchet. I have several other axes, but this is small and easy to carry, ultra sharp and can be used for many of the tasks normally given to larger axes and knives. However, food preparation would be a major survival task, so...
